Community Spotlight: Blue Mountain Action Council

Baker Boyer is deeply committed to the communities we serve and seeks opportunities to partner with amazing organizations who share that same commitment. Over the years, Baker Boyer has developed a close partnership with the Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC) in Walla Walla, WA. One of BMAC’s services is running the local food bank which organizes and distributes food through several programs. In this article, we highlight Baker Boyer’s involvement in three of those programs: the Backpack Bridge Program, the Realtor Share & Care Food Drive, and the Barrel Full of Money Auction and Wine Reception.

Backpack Bridge Program

Last Spring, more than 40 Baker Boyer Employees spent a Saturday morning supporting the Backpack Bridge Program which provides food to children faced with very low food security during times of need. In under two hours, employees packed over $7,500 worth of food that served local kids.

“Working alongside my co-workers at the food bank felt really good. Not only were we connecting with each other, but we got to do so in an environment that truly gives back to the community.” -Victoria Weeks, Events Coordinator

Realtor Care & Share Food Drive

Our second partnership for BMAC was with the Walla Walla Association of Realtors. For the second year in a row, we sponsored the Realtor Care and Share Food drive which distributes bags throughout neighborhoods in the community to collect non-perishable food items. Over 16,000 bags were distributed to homes which collected more than 30,000 pounds of food for BMAC’s food bank. Baker Boyer plans to partner with the Walla Walla Association of Realtors again this year in continued support of BMAC’s Food Bank.

Barrel Full of Money Fundraiser

In December, Baker Boyer partnered with Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance and other individuals and organizations for their annual holiday fundraiser titled Barrel Full of Money Auction & Wine Reception. Including being a sponsor of the event, we provided design support, radio commercial voiceover, and we funded and co-produced a video which helped tell the story of why the food bank is so important to our community. This video premiered at the Barrel Full of Money Fundraiser and will be a tool that BMAC can use to tell their story in the future. The event raised $55,716.82 which equals over 250,000 meals for our neighbors in need.
